EN 308 sets the test method for air-to-air heat recovery components such as plate exchangers, rotary wheels, and heat pipes. It defines how to measure temperatures and flow rates and how to calculate sensible and latent effectiveness.

Why It Matters

Without a fixed method, every manufacturer could test under conditions that flatter their product. EN 308 gives a common basis so that two datasheets can be compared like for like.

  • Supply and exhaust airflow rates
  • Inlet and outlet dry-bulb and wet-bulb temperatures
  • Effectiveness at several operating points, not just one

Reading a Datasheet

A credible EN 308 rating states the test airflow, the temperature difference, and the face velocity. If those are missing, the percentage is hard to trust. Look for the performance curve, which shows behaviour at part load where most equipment actually runs.
